Attack announce hiring of Todd Gill as Head Coach

The Owen Sound Attack is pleased to announce the hiring of Todd Gill as the 16th Head Coach in franchise history.

Gill, 51, was most recently an Assistant Coach with the Stockton Heat, AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Calgary Flames.

A veteran of over 1000 NHL games played with Toronto, San Jose, St. Louis, Detroit, Phoenix, Colorado, and Chicago, Gill joined Stockton at the start of the 2014-15 season following a three year stint as the Head Coach of the Kingston Frontenacs. In his time with Kingston, Gill improved the team each year, ultimately finishing with a record of 85-99-9-11.

Gill is also experienced on the international stage with Team Canada, having won bronze medal at the 2012 (April) U-18 tournament as an assistant coach before serving as head coach for the U-18 team who won the gold medal at the Ivan Hlinka tournament in August of 2012.

“We’re thrilled to be able to bring a coach of Todd’s calibre into the organization,” said General Manager Dale DeGray.

“Todd is an experienced OHL coach who will bring that experience into our locker room and help push our players on a daily basis. His time in the OHL, AHL, and on the international level has provided him with invaluable knowledge and we couldn’t be happier,” DeGray added.

Gill, who noted he closely followed the Attack and the entire OHL during his time with Stockton, said he is ecstatic about this opportunity.

“To join the Attack is a thrill,” he said. “I’m looking forward to the challenge and working with these players as we pursue our ultimate goal of winning a MasterCard Memorial Cup.”

A native of Brockville, Ontario, Gill said he is very much looking forward to making Owen Sound home.

“It’s a smaller city which, I love. The Bayshore is a wild building with great fans and is a very tough place for opposing teams to play in. I’m really excited to get going this fall.”

That Attack is also pleased to announce a one year extension on the contact of Alan Letang, who will remain on Gill’s staff as an assistant coach, returning for his 2nd year behind the bench with the organization. Letang is now signed through the 2018-19 season.

The Attack would like to welcome Todd, his wife Krista, and four children Chloe, Madeline, Owen, and Jack to the city and organization.
