The Owen Sound Attack were on the road tonight at the Sleeman Centre when they took on the Guelph Storm for the second time this season.  The Bears were looking for revenge tonight as the last match up with the Storm ended in a 6-2 loss for Owen Sound. Although the Attack opened up scoring, Guelph prevailed and found their 5th straight victory, winning 6-3 tonight.

Mack Guzda made the start in net tonight after sitting on the bench last week when rookie netminder Andrew MacLean took the start.

Early in the first at 4:44, Jackson Doherty whips the puck past Guelph netminder Anthony Popovich for his first goal of the OHL season and put the Bears up 1-0.  Doherty’s goal was assisted by Kaleb Pearson.

Mark Woolley wasted no time and found the back of the net, fooling Guzda and what looked like everyone else on the ice at 9:14.  Woolley’s goal was assisted by Domineco Commisso.

A tussle in front of the Owen Sound net between Trent Bourque and Isaac Ratcliffe sends Bourque to the box for roughing at 18:58. Time ran out in the first period, game tied 1-1.

Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal sat at 9 for Owen Sound, 11 for Guelph at the end of one.

Period two starts with 58 seconds of powerplay time for Guelph. But Markus Phillips headed to the box for slashing at 18 seconds in, sending the Storm to a 5 on 3 advantage early in the game.

Liam Hawel found the back of the net on the powerplay to bring the score to 2-1 early in the second at 2:11. Hawel’s goal was assisted by Tag Bertuzzi and Owen Lalonde.

Isaac Ratcliffe made a rough hit on Trent Bourque from behind and got sent to the box for checking from behind and the Attack headed to their first powerplay of the game at 6:01.

Bourque was very slow to get up and headed off the ice to get checked up.

On the powerplay, Markus Phillips makes a great shot from the blue line and Daylon Groulx tips the shot past Anthony Popovich to tie up the game once again.  Groulx’ goal was scored at 7:27, with Kaleb Pearson also assisting the play.

Tag Bertuzzi finds the back of the net from a nice feed from Domenico Commisso and Guelph took the lead again at 10:59. Owen Lalonde also assisted the play.

Gloves went down between Sean Durzi and Zach Poirier but got  broken up quickly.  Both are sent the box for roughing and the game headed to 4 on 4 hockey at 16:28.

Period 2 ends with Guelph leading 3-2.  Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal for the second sat at 14 Attack, 8 Storm.

Trent Bourque returned to start the third after getting the green light.

Third period plays on with not much action until midway through when Alexey Toropchenko sniped a shot past Guzda to take the lead 4-2.  Toropchenko’s goal was assisted by Domenico Commisso and Tag Bertuzzi at 7:05.

Groulx wasted no time to respond and sent a nice pass from Durzi to the back of the net at 8:49 to make it a one goal game once again.

Zach Poirier headed to the box for interference and the Bears got another powerplay chance at 10:28. They were ultimately unable to capitalize.

Poirier sent a beauty feed to Ryan Merkley, who faked a shot and then sent the puck through the 5 hole and Guelph were up 5-3.  The play was also assisted by Liam Hawel at 13:10.

Owen Sound pulled Mack Guzda with 3:45 left and the net was empty.

Guelph was able to pull through with Owen Sound having the man advantage and found the net with 1:09 left in the game.  Isaac Ratcliffe scores the empty netter, assisted by Nate Schnarr.

Final score 6-3, Guelph.
