Attack Prepare for 2018 CHL Import Draft

The Owen Sound Attack brain trust is hard at work preparing for the 2018 CHL Import draft, taking place Thursday, June 28th starting at 11 am.  This two round draft includes all 60 teams from across the CHL, with teams ranked in reverse order of the final regular season standings.  The CHL import draft is sometimes a little different with some teams opting not to pick, take one player or use both of their picks.

The Saint John Seadogs of the QJMHL hold the first overall pick, while the first OHL team to pick will be the Sudbury Wolves who hold the third overall pick.  The Owen Sound Attack will have the option to pick in the first round with the 45th overall pick and in the second round with the 105th overall pick.

Over the years the Attack have had some great success with the import draft.  Here is a snap shot of the last 5 years.

Artur Gavrus, Centre, 55th Overall 2011:  Gavrus played in 66 regular season games, scoring 23 times and adding 28 assists, while in the playoffs he had 3 goals and 5 assists in 13 games. Gavrus was selected in the 6th round, 180th overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Gilbert Gabor, Left Wing, 24th Overall 2012:  Gabor played in 109 regular season games scoring 10 times and assisting on 10 others.  In 15 playoff games he registered 1 goal.

Damir, Sharipzyanov, Defence, 50th Overall 2013:   Sharipzyanov played in 179 regular season games tallying 19 goals and 52 assists with a plus-20 rating.  He participated in 16 playoff games, registering 2 goals, 6 assists and a minus-6 rating.  Sharipzyanov was picked up as a NHL free agent by the Los Angeles Kings in 2015.

Petrus Palmu, Left Wing, 22nd Overall 2014:  Palmu played in 176 regular season games scoring 85 times and adding 104 assists.  In 28 playoff games, he had 17 goals and 11 assists.  Palmu went on to be selected in the 6th round, 181st overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Maksim Sushko, Left Wing, 29th Overall, 2016:  Sushko has played 114 regular season games finding the back of the net 48 times and adding 44 assists.  In the playoffs he has recorded 5 goals and 12 assists in 27 games.  Sushko heard his name called at the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers, being selected in the 4th round, 107th overall.
