Attack’s McNiven becomes new franchise shutouts leader
Ontario Hockey League

Montreal Canadiens prospect Michael McNiven turned away all 16 shots he faced on Wednesday, backstopping the Owen Sound Attack to a 4-0 win over the visiting Flint Firebirds.

McNiven’s fifth shutout of the season and 10th (regular season) of his OHL career sees him surpass Jordan Binnington (2009-13) for the most in Owen Sound Attack franchise history. The 66th win of his OHL career also puts him ahead of Curtis Sanford (1996-2000) for second on the franchise’s all-time wins list behind Binnington (86).

McNiven’s fourth straight win is his 30th of the season. His second straight shutout extends his streak of perfection to 134 minutes and 47 seconds.

The 19-year-old native of Georgetown, Ont. was originally the Attack’s fourth round (66th overall) pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection. He was signed as a free agent by the Montreal Canadiens in September 2015.

The Attack victory is their fifth straight as they continue to surge in the Midwest Division standings. They have conceded an OHL-low 132 goals this season.
