Guzda Invited to Hockey Canada U-18 Selection Camp
Tuesday morning, Hockey Canada announced a list of 44 invitees to the selection camp for the Canadian National Men’s under-18 team that will participate at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup this August in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta. Among the invitees was Owen Sound Attack rookie net minder Mack Guzda, who is coming off an impressive first season in the Ontario Hockey League.
During the 2017-18 season, Guzda played in 30 regular season games amassing a record of 14 wins, 6 losses, 2 overtime losses and 2 shootout losses and finishing the season with a 3.20 goals against average and 0.879 save percentage. His 14 wins set the record for most by an Attack under-aged goaltender in franchise history. During the playoffs he saw playing time in 3 games finishing with a 1-1 record and a 3.30 goals against average and 0.884 save percentage.
“As a 16-year old, Mack has certainly displayed an ability to play in the OHL and CHL,” said Attack General Manager Dale Degray. “He has earned the confidence of his teammates in a very short window of opportunity. I know he will represent our organization very well.”
This is the second off-season that Guzda will spend some time with the Hockey Canada program having been invited last year to the Canada Under-17 Development camp. Last summer, his goals against average of 2.79 was second only to fellow Under-18 invitee Luke Cavallin a year ago.
“Its a great feeling and a dream come true to be given a chance to compete for a spot on this roster,” said Mack Guzda. “I know it will be a competitive camp and I am looking forward to the challenge.”
“Now, I just need to continue to train hard and be as prepared for camp as possible” added Guzda.
The Under-18 selection camp will take place July 28 to August 1 in Calgary Alberta.
