MACLEAN EARNS FIRST CAREER SHUTOUT IN WIN OVER KINGSTON
KINGTSON – The Owen Sound Attack made the long trek to the Leon’s Centre in Kingston for the first of two meetings against the Frontenacs this season. The Attack were able to breakdown the barracks for a 3-0 win, extending the winning streak to four games.
Mitchell Russell, Griffin Wilson and Zach Roberts scored for the Attack and Manuel Alberg had two assists, while Andrew MacLean made 27 saves for his first career OHL shutout in tonights win. Frontenacs goaltender Brendan Bonello made 32 saves in the losing effort.
After a very uneventful first period, the Attack used a successful four minute penalty kill to build momentum and begin to apply sustained pressure to the Frontenacs. Kingston goaltender Brendan Bonello was able to keep the Attack off the scoreboard until around the 13 minute mark when Mitchell Russell took a pass in the slot from Manuel Alberg and made no mistake registering is fifth of the season. The play evened out as the period progressed with Andrew MacLean needing to make a couple of huge saves to maintain the Attack lead at 1-0 after two periods.
The third period started with a bit of rough play as some big hits resulted in a couple of fights. After the dust settled balanced play continued with the Attack managing little more sustained pressure in the Kingston end. After some decent opportunities by both teams, Sean Durzi was able to get a loose puck at the top of the circle and feed it to a wide open Wilson who made no mistake going top shelf to extend the Attacks lead to two. After a successful Attack penalty kill the Kevin Hancock sprung Roberts loose on a breakaway on the open net, he made no mistake extending the Attack lead to 3-0. The Attack locked down for the remainder of the game ensuring MacLean would earn his first career OHL shutout.
