Szypula named Huron Tractor Player of the Week
The Owen Sound Attack is announcing that overage forward Ethan Szypula has been named the team’s Huron Tractor Player of the Week for Week 24 of the Ontario Hockey League season.
A native of London, ON, the 21 year old Szypula scored twice and added four assists in the team’s three victories for six points – giving him a career high 50 points on the season.
Now with 17 goals and 33 assists on the year, Szypula kicked off the week by exploding for four points against the Barrie Colts in Owen Sound’s 6-5 overtime win on Thursday, Mar. 8.
He followed that up by scoring once in the team’s shutout of the Saginaw Spirit on Saturday, Mar. 10 before chipping in with a single assist in the squad’s thrilling 6-5 shootout victory over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Sunday afternoon.
The Attack’s 1st round pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection, Szypula currently sits at 2nd all time in franchise games played with 317 and is on pace to finish his career with 320, which would be seven back of Keevin Cutting’s all time mark.
In those 317 career games, Szypula has scored 59 times and added 116 assists for 175 career points.
Highlights of Szypula’s week can be found below.
The Attack would also like to give honourable mentions to goaltender Mack Guzda, who turned aside all 29 shots he faced and recorded his first career OHL shutout in the win over Saginaw, as well as defenceman Trent Bourque, who recorded two assists and was a +3 over the week despite logging heavy minutes against the opposition’s top forward units.
Owen Sound will conclude their regular season with three games, beginning on Wednesday, Mar. 14 with a trip to Flint to take on the Firebirds. Game time for that contest is set for 7:00pm, and can be watched live on Rogers Local 53 or listened to on Kia of Owen Sound/Terry’s Trailer Service Bear Radio.
The Attack will play their final game of the regular season at home on Saturday, Mar. 17 against the Sarnia Sting in a 7:30pm contest. Tickets for that game are limited, but can be purchased at the MacVicar & McComb ReMax Attack Box Office.
