ATTACK COME UP SHORT IN SAGINAW
9/30/2007

Our Owen Sound Attack were guests of the Saginaw Spirit Saturday night. Always a exciting and busy rink to play in, our Attack rallied in the third period, but came up short as the Spirit scored a final powerplay goal to win this one 5-3 before 3944 fans in attendance.

Marco Franchini's first career OHL goal - a powerplay marker - at 10:02 of the first period gave our Attack an early lead. Marco's shot rebounded off the glass behind the Saginaw net, off the back of Spirit goaltender Ryan Daniels and in the net. Wayne Simmonds and Michael D'Orazio assisted.

But the Spirit came right back with two PP goals of their own 1:23 apart. Patrick Asselin deflected a shot behind Attack netminder David Davenport at 12:21 while Jack Combs was lucky enough to have his shot deflect off an Attack defender at 13:44 to give the Spirit a first period 2-1 lead.

Second period play has never been one of our franchise's strong periods. No change in Saginaw. Mid-period goals by Jan Mursak at 11:42 and Asselin at 13:10 gave the Spirit a 4-1 two period lead.

Saginaw is a tough barn to rally in, but rally our boys did. Just 40 seconds into the third, Wayne Simmonds found the back of the net with his first of the season from Scott Tregunna and Milan Doczy and then it was 11:16 when Matt Carter's first of the season from Joshua Domingues and Franchini brought our Attack to within one goal of tying this affair up.

Unfortunately, Saginaw nailed this game shut with a PP goal at 13:15 from the stick of Ryan McDonough.

Final score Saginaw 5 - Owen Sound 3.

The Spirit went 3 for 6 on the PP while our Attack were 1 for 1.

The Spirit were awarded all 3 Star's of the Game. Combs, Asselin and Tomas Zaborsky.
