ATTACK COMPLETE 3 GAME ROAD SET
9/30/2007

Our Attack finished a 3 game weekend road swing Sunday night completing a home-and-home match with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. The Greyhounds were our guests for our home opener September 22nd. The Hounds left town with a 4-2 victory. Sunday night was the last time the two face would each other this regular season.

Head Coach Mark Reeds gave goaltender David Davenport a night off after two good performances in Sarnia and Saginaw. Rookie tender Tyler Beskorowany got his first Ontario Hockey League start.

Owen Sound fans are hoping for some great moments from sophomore right winger Wayne Simmonds this season. Simmer really came on strong in his rookie season last year. Enough so, that the Los Angeles Kings drafted Wayne with the 61st overall National Hockey League Entry Draft pick this past spring.

Wayne opened the scoring with “a bomb” of a low shot that beat Soo tender Kyle Gajewski low glove side for his 2nd marker of the season. Marco Franchini and Scott Tregunna assisted. Time of the powerplay goal was 10:46.

The Greyhounds tied things at one at 17:48. Michael Fine won the faceoff, the puck was put on the Attack net and after bouncing around a bit, Jacob Lalonde swept in his 2nd of the season from Josh Godfrey and Fine.

1-1 after one period of play.

How will our Attack handle the second period? Not often has this period been a good one for our franchise over the years.

Arron Alphonso was credited with his 1st of the season after his shot deflected high off an Attacker and over the glove hand of Beskorowany at 5:16. Godfrey and Fine assisted. Alphonso’s line – with Brandon MacLean and Matthew Lyall - were having a great night and had had the Attack heemed in for some time before the goal.

Just over a minute later, James Livingstone picked up his 5th of the season tipping in a Godfrey shot from the point at 6:37 making it a 3-1 game. Three straight Greyhound goals.

Matt Carter was able to shovel in his 2nd of the season after a blast by Mark Pawlowski to slow the Greyhound attack at 11:54. Frankie Santini was also awarded an assist.

Alphonso was back at 15:32. A marvelous setup by Lyall with MacLean also assisting.

4-2 after two periods of play. The Greyhounds had outshot our Attack 13-6 that period for a two period total of 23-16 Soo.

Greyhound Jacob Lalonde elbowed Matt Carter and was awarded a minor penalty at 5:48. Twelve seconds later, Scott Tregunna deflected a point shot from David Kolomatis by Gajewski for his 2nd of the season making it a 4-3 game. Wayne Simmonds also assisted.

But Lalonde bounced back to give his club another two goal lead with a goal at 9:39 from Fine and Biggers.

By his own admittance, Wayne Simmonds was not happy with his play last weekend. He has got things rolling now with his 2nd goal of the game and 3rd in two nights by slapping in his third rebound at 16:34 making it a 5-4 game.

The Hounds responded to the pressure with two goals 7 seconds apart. Brandon Biggers with his 3rd of the season at 18:36 and James Livingstone with his 6th of the season at 18:43 nailed down a 7-4 win for the Greyhounds.

Our Attack were 2 for 5 on the PP while the Hounds were 0 for 3. The Greyhounds have started the season with 5 straight wins.

The 3 Stars of the Game were:
1st Star – Arron Alphonso
2nd Star – Jacob Lalonde
3rd Star – Wayne Simmonds
