Attack add Trio from OHL U18 Draft

Just days after the OHL Priority Selection Draft, the league held the U18 draft Wedensday night, and the Owen Sound Attack added a trio of players to their prospect pool.

This draft has been and to the Owen Sound Attack in the past with the likes of Griffin Wilson and Logan LeSage as former selections, while Kaleb Pearson, though not an Attack pick, remains the most productive player ever from a U18 draft.

Holding the 10th overall pick, Attack GM Dale DeGray went out east selecting Sam Ethier, a defensemen from the Rockland Nationals U18 program. Ethier had a very productive first season with the U18 program, as he displayed his offensive abilities, netting 44 points (21G, 23A) in 40 games with the Nationals. The Ottawa, ON native also saw time with the Rockland Nationals Jr. A team of the Central Canadian Hockey League, as he played in 6 games and contributed a goal and assist.

With the teams second selection at 30th, DeGray went between the pipes, selecting goalie Jack Martin of the Elgin Middlesex Canucks U18 program. Martin, a native of Wallaceburg, ON brings the size of a modern goalie at 6’2 and his play with the Canucks this season backed it up posting a 1.81 goals against average during the season, and confirmed his abilities during the playoffs when he had a 1.68 GAA.

The final pick for the Attack landed at 47th overall, and DeGray rounded out his U18 line up selecting Brendan Williams, a centre from the North Central Predators U18. Though the numbers don’t jump off the page with Williams, he played a leadership role with the Predators this season as an assistant captain, and showed a clutch ability as he posted a point per game during the playoffs.

The Attack welcome all three players to the organization and look forward to having them compete at the 2023 training camp.
