It surely is the most wonderful time of the year, especially for junior hockey.
As rosters for the up coming World Junior Hockey Championships are being announced, Owen Sound is proud to announce that two current Attack players and a former Attack player, have been named to their respective country’s preliminary rosters, as Servac Petrovsky (Slovakia), Stepan Machacek (Czech Republic) and Joshua Samanski (Germany) are all heading off to Edmonton later this month.
Petrovsky is enjoying a strong rookie season with the Attack, as he currently sits third in team scoring registering five goals, 11 assists for 16 points throughout his first 18 games. The young centre has been a model of consistency, having gone only six games without registering a point, while notching four multi-point games.
“It’s a great honour to get the chance to represent your country,” Petrovsky said. “I’m excited for the opportunity to go over and play.”
Machacek, who is in his second season with the Attack, has shown his offensive abilities early on registering 14 points in 18 games (7 goals, 7 assists). The big Czech winger has developed into a premier power forward with the Attack, and has been key as the net front presence on the power play.
“It’s just another game,” Machacek said when asked about going over to Edmonton. “I’ll treat it like every other game, and won’t worry about changing my game.”
Samanski played in 54 games with the Attack in the 2019-20 season, where he registered four goals, 16 assists for 20 points as an OHL rookie. This year Samanski has played in Germany, where he started the year with the Straubing Tigers putting up five points in 22 games, but has recently played with Landshut EV of the German second league and has three points in two games.
All three players will participate in their teams pre-tournament games in hopes of being named to the final roster for puck drop on Boxing Day.
