Gavin Bryant and Deni Goure combine for 7 points, as the Owen Sound Attack continue their strong 2022 preseason with a 9-3 rout of the North Bay Battalion Tuesday night at the Bayshore.
Bryant scored a pair of goals and added a pair of assists, including a nice touch pass to Colby Barlow in front of the net for the eventual game-winner. Goure would give the Attack their first multi-goal lead with his first of the preseason, and would also provide a pair of helpers, as he made an impact in his return from Carolina Hurricane’s rookie camp.
Both teams were missing some big names, as many OHL players are still away at NHL camps, but the Attack’s remaining stars shone bright on Tuesday night. On top of Bryant and Goure, Barlow would add a helper to go with his goal, while Sam Sedley (1g, 2a) and Thomas Chafe (1g, 1a) would chip-in on the offensive output.
Though only preseason the pressure to produce is still there for players, 2022 11th overall pick Ben Cormier can now take a breath and relieve that pressure, as he notched a goal and assist in the blown out. Feeling less pressure would be import defensemen Luc Schwengruber, but he added a pair of apples late in the game just for good measure.
Goaltender Corbin Votary, who had previously played a half game against the Barrie Colts, got the full game start for the Attack. The sophomore goalie was solid all night, and stood tall late in period one when the Battalion were really pressing. Overall Votary made 26 saves on 29 shots, showing his growth throughout the off-season.
The Attack wrap-up their preseason schedule Saturday night when they welcome the Barrie Colts to the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. Puck drop is set for 7pm with tickets available online or at the MacVicar and McComb Sutton Realty Box Office.
