To our fans from the Owen Sound Attack
As you have undoubtedly heard by now, the Ontario Hockey League’s attempt to start the 2020-21 hockey league has, officially, come to an end. The safety and security of our players, staff, billets and communities is, and always has been, the foremost concern for all OHL franchises and, with Ontario’s deteriorating situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, it was the consensus of the Government of Ontario, the league, the franchises and almost everyone associated with the game that trying to operate safely in this current environment was not possible. It is unfortunate but it is today’s reality.
While the OHL’s discussions about the 20-21 season have been on-going, the team has been busy preparing for icing a competitive team in 2021-22. The pandemic has presented major challenges but, like so often, challenges provide opportunities to grow, adapt and get better. To name just a few, we have found new ways to review and evaluate young players that will help with their selection in the future. We have made significant investments in our facilities that will help keep the team and our fans safe from further threats from infection. We have become more adept at using computer-based communication tools to balance player’s time between hockey and their education. We have these tools to help players to stay in contact with the coaching staff and each other and we have conducted a successful, remote program of training. We will be in great shape for the league’s anticipated restart in the fall.
This past year has been, in many ways, sad, frustrating, and disappointing for us all. Many of us have experienced loss, grief and anxiety and we have missed our friends and families. Through it all, there have been few opportunities to support each other but the finish line for this pandemic misery is now in sight, if we all continue to do the right things. With the leadership of Public Health, the amazing efforts of our front-line workers and the public’s commitment to keeping each other safe, this region has been one of the most successful in managing the pandemic’s challenges. You can help us get your team back onto the ice by continuing practicing all the Public Health guidelines. Stay at home and stay a safe distance apart when you absolutely cannot stay at home. Wear your mask, wash your hands. Get your vaccination as soon as it is available to you and encourage others to get theirs. Continue to care about how you can keep others safe.
We are getting through this together and we will be alright. We are moving forward. Keep up with what is happening with the Attack through our website at attackhockey.com, or through our social media feeds on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
Our offices and retail store continue to adapt to the changing public health orders. Our staff will be working from home until at least May 20th when the current order is set to expire. To keep everyone safe Attack Shack orders purchased through the online store will be processed periodically for shipment or local delivery only during this same period. To contact our staff during this time, please either email email@example.com or call (226) 668-4996.
We will be playing hockey again before we know it. It is going to be a great ride!
