The Owen Sound Attack Hockey Club is excited to begin the offseason search for our charitable partners for the upcoming 2022-23 season. We are encouraged by the continued resilience of our fans and community in the last few trying years and are aiming to renew our commitment to local charities and community groups as we return to more normal activity.
As is tradition for the Attack, we are searching for a charity or local organization to partner with us for our specially themed charity game night which is to be held in February of next year. In previous seasons the Attack have hosted numerous charitable causes, raising money through auctions, bucket passes, puck tosses, and other events leading to tens of thousands of dollars raised for local initiatives.
Most recently our Captain Mark Woolley’s charity Woolley’s Warriors was the recipient of $19,620.40 raised, benefitting Diabetes Canada. Our second official Hockey Fight’s Cancer night took in $26,250.57 with 100% of proceeds supporting locals living with cancer.
The Attack will be taking applications for the 2022-23 charity game up until Friday, June 17th. Any potential applicants can read more about the process, read about past games and apply on our website here.
The organization is also pleased to begin a new charitable project in the coming season with our volunteer usher program.
This program will allow smaller interest groups and charities to raise money for their initiatives and programming throughout the season by partnering with the Attack at our 34 home games. The Attack are looking for groups with between 10-20 volunteers (18 years or older) to act as ushers for our home matches in exchange for a charitable donation to their cause at the end of the season. The Attack will provide each organization with $50 per person attending each game with a total lump payment being provided to the organization/beneficiary at the end of the year.
Local charities, special interest groups, fundraising committees and others are encouraged to apply for this initiative as a way for the Attack to give back, connect, and raise money for smaller organizations looking for simple and entertaining fundraising opportunities. Interested parties can find the application form, as well as requirements of the volunteers here. The deadline to apply for this program will be August 1st.
“The Attack have always been committed to giving back to charity, with an emphasis on local programming and support. We look forward in the next season to returning to more regular in-person community outreach, as well as continuing to provide opportunities like our charity game nights to shine the spotlight on these important causes. Our hope is that our game nights as well as the new programs like the volunteer usher initiative continue to grow, and reinforce our commitment to the Owen Sound and surrounding community”, Greg Hoddinott, Manager of Marketing and Communications.
